NOT JUST PROFIT
The experience has shown that the relationship between the tourism and conservation sectors is sometimes toxic. We have many examples of corporations that use “eco” labels to do tourism just more attractive. However, with tourism being one of the Nicaragua’s largest sources of revenue, we need to seek common ground between tourism and conservation sectors. What Sos Nicaragua is proposing is a simple question: Why don’t reverse the model using tourism to support conservation? Although private enterprise is rarely considered a lead player in conservation schemes, Sos Nicaragua wants to break the mold and strengthen an hybrid model that is achieving both community development and conservation objectives.
